Original Western Big Game Trophy Show

Fellow Sportsmen,

The Rockingham - Harrisonburg Chapter of the Izaak Walton League would like to thank all the past participants of our Original Western Big Game Show held in Harrisonburg Va. Our NEW Big Game Trophy Show event will be held this year on September 8th – 10th at the Rockingham County Fairgrounds; which has been dubbed by the Los Angeles Times as one of the best rural county fairs in the United States.

The Department of Virginia Inland Game and Fisheries has decided that they will no longer issue citations for Big Game Animals or sanction any State Big Game Trophy show or contest. This greatly reduces the value and recognition in our minds of a scoring system that is no longer State recognized. We are taking this opportunity to change over from the "Old Virginia Scoring System". Let's face it when talking to our friends from other states they have no idea how the Virginia system worked since everyone else in the United States uses Boone & Crocket / Pope & Young scoring systems. We stayed with the Virginia system in past years because of the citations the State awarded. These awards were a time honored tradition here in Virginia that gave deserved bragging rights to those who received them but unfortunately that is over. All good things come to an end and this is over so it is time to move on in a new direction.

We know your hunting trophies are what make our show the quality event it is known for. That is what we are all about, offering you a well run show that appreciates your participation where your trophies are scored fairly and you receive the recognition you deserve. We have some great news for you this year. Many of you have requested over the past years to have your mounts scored with Boone & Crocket for gun and Pope & Young for archery. We are going to make this happen for you at our show this year. It is time for a nationally recognized system here in Virginia for big game trophies. We invite you back to be part of it.

Moving to the Boone & Crocket / Pope & Young scoring systems opens up many opportunities for you. All legal chase kills from trophies are eligible for the Boone & Crocket / Pope & Young scoring regardless of the year harvested. Did you ever wonder how your mount from past years would have scored? You can enter it this year at our event and find out along with your mounts from 2014. We can also score any legal chase killed animal that you have harvested from any other state. We are even opening up the scoring to friends and family of West Virginia and surrounding areas. There should be a lot of excitement at the show this year with many quality trophies.

Our show is alive and fresh giving sportsman what they want from a Big Game Show in Virginia. We look forward to seeing you there. Be a part of the new direction of game show competition in Virginia.
