2009 Fishing Rodeo
We had a great day at Lake Shenandoah for the 2009 Fishing Rodeo this year! We started at 9:00 am with 68 children and parents. We had a few kids and their sponsors join us from the local chapter of Big Brothers & Big Sisters too. Overall it we had a great turnout and a lot of happy kids!
The kids fished until 12:00 noon and then turned in their fishing scores
to be calculated to determine the winners of each category. We handed
out door prizes and started the awards after a lunch of hot dogs, chips and cookies. We also had Kool Aid and Lemonade to drink and coffee for the adults.
The IWLA sponsors the Annual Fishing Rodeo each year to promote environmental awareness and appreciation in the young people of today in hopes that they will take these lessons with them as they continue to enjoy the outdoors as adults. If the photos are any indication, these kids are off to a good start!
Special thanks to the following for their generous donations that made the Fishing Rodeo possible:
- Bridgewater IGA
- Rockingham Coop
- Eddie Black
- Walmart
- Eagle Carpet
- Dept. of Game and Inland Fisheries
