2010 Fishing Rodeo
We had a great day at Lake Shenandoah for the 2010 Fishing Rodeo! We started at 9:00 am with 42 children and their parents. The whether was good with no rain and a nice breeze to keep everyone comfortable.
How this works is we break down these young anglers in 5 classes. We keep a score card on each of the kids, recording the number of fish and how long each one is. After lunch we hand out awards for the top 3 in each class with Special Awards going to the Largest Fish, the Smallest Fish and the Most Inches of Fish caught. Everyone that participates gets a certificate and a door prize.
The kids fished until 11:30 noon and then turned in their fishing scores to determine the winners of each category. We had a lunch of hot dogs, chips and cookies with Kool Aid and Lemonade to drink. All of the food is supplied by the Club.
The IWLA sponsors the Annual Fishing Rodeo each year to promote environmental awareness and appreciation in the young people of today in hopes that they will take these lessons with them as they continue to enjoy the outdoors as adults. If the photos are any indication, these kids are off to a good start!
Special thanks to the following for their generous donations that made the Fishing Rodeo possible:
- Bridgewater IGA
- Rockingham Coop
- Eagle Carpet
- Dept. of Game and Inland Fisheries
